ECC is building infrastructure that supports the Zcash ecosystem and makes possible a decentralized future that values individual privacy and consent, security, and human dignity. To that end, we are committed to deliver digital cash through the privacy protocol (Zcash) and product innovation.
Earlier this month, the ECC team joined members of the Zcash community, in person, at Z|ECC Summit to assess priorities (existing and new) and update our roadmap. The overarching goal is to drive Zcash adoption.
After hearing the latest Zcash user research from ZURE, participating in usability and innovation workshops that were held on site, and evaluating ECC team strengths, the ECC roadmap was updated and ratified. (Our previous roadmap was delivered to the community in April.)
Some notable changes and updates in this new roadmap:
- The timeline to deliver Zashi 2.0 was pushed from October to January to account for a host of new features and capabilities in 1.n, including Flexa integration, a Coinbase onramp, and a Zashi address book.
- We also added new candidates into our Zashi discovery and research queue, including polling and newsfeed features. Everything in “discovery” is a consideration for development, and priorities are reviewed quarterly.
- Network upgrades (NU6 and NU7) are still on track for activation at the previous target dates, as is zcashd deprecation.
- Our engineering work on moving Zcash to a hybrid proof-of-stake consensus mechanism is mostly on pause at the moment while we engage with a third-party to help accelerate development and delivery of this project. More news on this soon.
